The Role of St. Peter in Orthodox Theology
How Does A New Archeology Discovery Harmonize w/ Orthodox Ecclesiology?
Dear Friends,
I recently responded to two videos by Catholic apologists about an archeological discovery that references St. Peter as ‘head among the apostles.” Both apologists stated that this mosaic in a 5th century church in Bethsaida should challenge Orthodox theology and ‘proves’ Roman Catholicism and Papal Supremacy. I unpack how this discovery is not a surprise to the Orthodox Church and discuss the understanding of primacy among the bishops within the original, conciliar (council-based) model as well as the role of St. Peter among the apostles.
My deep dive response (Part 1) can be found below exclusively for paid subscribers (only $5 a month) which includes a deep dive in the church fathers and scholarship.
*Also, I have a mini-course that just began through St. Athanasius College where I am a ‘live’ instructor going through C.S. Lewis’ Christmas Sermon to Pagans, Tolkien’s ‘Letters from Father Christmas,’ and very rich Christmas homilies by the Church Fathers. Here is the link if you would like to join us this Monday: https://courses.bothanddesign.com/courses/cosmic-nativity/
Thank you for all of the support and prayers and may you have a blessed Nativity Fast/Advent!
