Presentations include the thought of St. Mark of Ephesus and the Eastern tradition of the intermediate state in dialogue with the medieval Latin position represented by the Dominican School (Aquinas), Franciscan School (Bonaventure), Jesuit School (Bellarmine) and Papal Magisterium. It will also discuss the modern renovation of the Latin model of purgatory by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) and the implications for dialogue with Orthodox thought.
