Can Ancient Christian Fasting Prevent Addictions in our Youth?
Interview with Dr. Pete Patitsas, Author of 'The Athos Diet'
St. Basil once said, “It is because we did not fast that we were banished from paradise. So let us fast that we may return to it” (First Homily on Fasting cir. fourth century).
Too many people have lost relatives, friends, and even their own children due to drug addictions. Recently, I even read a medical report that the demand for liver transplants has sky rocketed since the Covid shutdowns because too many people have embraced heavy drinking as a new way of life. Of course, there are other addictions as well: food addictions, sex & porn addictions, and yes, even screen addictions. In my recent interview with Dr. Pete Patitsas, author of “The Athos Diet,” he discusses how ancient Christian fasting can actually be used by Christ to heal us of addictions and prevent them from forming in our children from the start:
If you enjoyed that clip, then you can watch the full interview, which is now available to all below:
Lastly, do not forget that I am developing a full course on fasting for paid subscribers (only $5 a month!) which will not only teach you about the Biblical, theological, and historical foundations for Christian fasting, but also integrate some of Dr. Pete’s own work on the medical and biological foundations of intermittent fasting and healthy eating.
Have a blessed Friday!
