Holy Icons & Burial Shrouds I Finding Healing in Christ I 'Bible Answer Man' Retracts
Is there a connection between the history of Christ’s burial shroud and icons of Christ? In my latest video, I explore this possibility as well an in-depth article by an Orthodox priest on the Shroud of Turin. I also discuss the historical connections between relic veneration of saints and icon veneration in general.
Breaking News
Why are we discussing the Shroud of Turin in August and not around the time of the Resurrection (Pascha/Easter)? Because a recent study was just released on the Shroud of Turin with different laboratories using x-ray technologies to date its fiber. The results were surprising to some: 2,000 years old. I’ll leave the rest of study for you to explore!
Treating the Soul & Finding Healing w/ Fr. Gregory Jenson
We “will never become holy by fighting evil,” and that rather “we must first fall in love with Christ.” -St. Elder Porphyrios
Two days ago, I interviewed Fr. Gregory Jenson, who is also a professor of moral theology with a background in psychology, in order to discuss the Orthodox way of healing. We primarily discuss one of his most recent articles which you can find on substack:
Our interview was a good reminder that, although we have been left ‘fragmented’ by Adam’s fall, Christ came to treat us as the Great Physician and to give us life to the full (See John 10:10)! However, this path to healing is not easy and comfortable. Christ says we must pick up our cross daily and follow Him. It requires revealing ourselves to God, taking responsibility for who we have become, asking for His forgiveness, receiving guidance from a spiritual father, pursuing deep, godly friendships with others, and implementing ascetical disciplines such as a routine (a rule) of prayer, fasting, and sacramental worship so that we might truly become His joyful disciples!
Speaking of a ‘Prayer Rule. ‘Here is a clip from a recent interview I had with Fr. Patrick Cardine on the Benedictine rule within Orthodoxy (Western-Rite).
Bible Answer Man Retracts His Former Views on ‘Christ’s Descent Into Hades’
Most recently, Hank Hanegraff, who was once known in the Protestant world as the ‘Bible Answer Man,’ formerly retracted his older views on the Harrowing of Hell. He is now an Orthodox Christian and believes the early church fathers reveal the earliest and best interpretations we have of Scripture and the Apostolic Transmission on this doctrine.
Lastly, when I was a church planter in the Protestant world, I heard the myth that all of St. Paul’s churches died at some point, and new churches needed to be planted to replace them. Although some of these ancient cities experienced significant natural disasters such as earthquakes, I am happy to announce that many of these communities did live on and were overseen by a continuous line of Orthodox bishops up to the present day! Here is a little video on made on this topic:
If you are still reading this, thank you for all of your prayers! I have more theology videos, interviews, and in depth articles/books coming down the pipeline, and I greatly appreciate your support!
Be entirely His,
Kyle
C.S. Lewis once said, “We do not want merely to see beauty… We want something else which can hardly be put into words–to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to become part of it.”1
