Aslan Goes to Outer Space (Or Deep Heaven?)
A Guide to C.S. Lewis' 'Space' Trilogy w/ Dr. Steven Petersheim
Recently I had a wonderful time discussing C.S. Lewis’ Space trilogy (see video below) with my good friend, Dr. Steven Petersheim, a devout Christian and professor of literature who has taught a course on C.S. Lewis and his science fiction series. We explore why most Lewis and Narnia fans have not read these books (or gave up reading them) and how readers should best approach these fascinating novels. Some of the questions we explore in this interview are:
What is the literary genre of this series and how is this ‘science fiction’ series different from Star Wars or Star Trek?
Why do readers struggle to complete this series? What are some tips in overcoming these common barriers?
What would our world be like if humans never sinned or rebelled against God?
Do angelic beings impact the events and empires of history?
What is the difference between sins of the flesh (animal desires) and demonic sins (pride, destructive ideas and false philosophies)?
Would the discovery of aliens and other intelligent life forms disprove the Bible, Christianity, and the existence of God?
Will Christ introduce us to other species and races in the universe after he renews the earth at His second coming?
Today is also the first C.S. Lewis Reading Day (his birthday, Nov. 29th) so be sure to crack open one of his books and share a quote of his online. The podcast, Pints with Jack, has already created several images that would be worth sharing today! See Here: C.S. Lewis Quotes
