"ARE WE ALL CYBORGS NOW?"
Full Interview w/ Robin Phillips & Joshua Pauling (+Video on Bishops/Apostolic Succession)
Dear Barrel Aged Christians,
I had the privilege of hosting a wonderful conversation between 3 very thoughtful men on the emerging technologies reshaping our world (and particularly the brains of our children) and how to respond as Christians and fathers. In my last article, this is what I said about this book:
One of the biggest questions I have asked as a father is “How do I help navigate my family in a world where technology is no longer just a tool but has almost become fully integrated within our own self-identity?” Many of us shrink at the thought of brain chip technology that Elon Musk is pioneering, but most of us do not realize that we’ve already crossed this line with our smart phones which are literally reshaping our brains, especially youth.
In their new book (“Are We All Cyborgs Now?”), Robin Philips and Joshua Pauling answer my burning question. They speak of the real ‘burden of technological omnipresence’ in our lives as well as the strange new world unfolding before our eyes (think AI girlfriends). They also ask the ‘deep questions’ such as ‘Are we becoming more conformed to the image of the Machine rather than to the Image of Christ?’ Thankfully, not only do they diagnose the real risk of ‘becoming cyborgs’ in a sense, but they also offer real solutions to ‘reclaiming our humanity.’
“Its my 111th birthday!”
Okay, I am not that old, but sometimes my kids think so. Needless to say, I am very happy that my birthday falls during ‘Tolkien Month’ which centers around the shared birthdays of Bilbo and Frodo on September 22nd. For my birthday, I did a laid back stream where I discuss very random topics such as a newly, reconstructed ‘Vikings Chapel’ as well as Orc babies in relation to Tolkien’s theology, the transformation of St. Peter in the Book of Acts, and much more!
Presbyters, Bishops, and Apostolic Succession, Oh My!
This week, I also did more of a teaching video on whether the office of bishop and the office of presbyter (priest or elder) are always the same office in the 1st century or ‘Apostolic Age.’ This is a very important conversation, particularly for those who speak against the concepts of apostolic succession and the kind of bishop that St. Ignatius of Antioch describes in 107 A.D.
Thanks for all of your support and prayers!
Be entirely His,
Kyle
Wonder-filled post as ever, and…I just thought that in the phone book you must be listed as’King Kyle’ lol 😆
